A pause offer that shows before someone cancels

Some people cancel because they need a break, not because they are done. Offer a pause of one, two or three months right when they tap cancel. Your code decides what a pause means.

Try it. This is the real thing.

The phone runs the same open-source Web SDK your site would load, with the template exactly as it ships. Tap a button and see what your code would receive. Prices here are examples; your site passes the real ones.

The button below opens it as a popup over this page, the way it appears on a site.

Tap anything, and scroll inside the phone for the rest. Your site gets the event.

When to use it

  • When someone taps cancel in your account settings.
  • As the second screen after a cancel survey answer like I need a break.
  • For seasonal products with quiet months.

What goes on it

  • A headline that offers a break.
  • A line on what stays as it is while paused.
  • Three pause lengths to pick from.
  • A Pause my plan button and a quieter Cancel anyway.

Set it up in three steps

  1. Start from the Pause Instead template

    Change the lengths to the ones you can really offer, and say what happens to the person's data and billing. Only promise what your product does.

  2. Give it a placement

    Name it something like pause_offer, and open it from your cancel button, or as the next screen of a cancel survey.

  3. Run the pause in your own code

    When someone taps Pause my plan, your code receives pause_subscription and the length they picked. It pauses the plan with your billing provider. Miniwall only shows the screen and reports the choice.

The code on your site

Prices and checkout stay in your product. The screen itself comes from Miniwall, so a new version reaches your site without a release.

Offer the pause, then pause or cancel in your own code
// pausePlan and startCancel are your own functions.
document.querySelector("#cancel").addEventListener("click", async () => {
  await UIKit.presentPaywall({
    paywall: { placement: "pause_offer" },
    onAction: ({ actionId, answers }) => {
      // answers.pause_length is "pause_1", "pause_2" or "pause_3".
      if (actionId === "pause_subscription") pausePlan(answers.pause_length);
      if (actionId === "cancel_anyway") startCancel();
    },
  });
});

Good to know

Does Miniwall pause the subscription?
No. Miniwall does not handle payments and does not know a subscription's state. Your code, with your billing provider, makes the pause.
Can I show it only to some customers?
Yes. Your site passes an attribute such as plan, and an audience rule is checked in the browser. Audiences are on Pro and up.
